‘Perth Folk and Roots Club is proud to be welcome to Neil Fernandes (Manikins), Greg Dear (Beautiful Losers) to perform at the Lyric’s Underground in Maylands‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Neil Fernandes was a guitarist and singer songwriter with the Manikins, one of the biggest bands in Perth in the late 70s and early 80’s. The Manikins and their previous incarnations at different times featured such Australian musical luminaries as Dave Faulkner (The Hoodoo Gurus) and Kim Salmon (The Scientists) and featured music that was rooted in pop, new wave and punk that made a national impact.  The Manikins had several residencies in Perth, including the Broadway Tavern in Nedlands and Hernando's Hideaway and they also resided in Melbourne for a time. In recent years, Neil has returned to music and has released new material as a solo artist with the release of Salon Hang in 2021 and Porch Songs in 2022 reflecting a new song writing approach with acoustic guitar, clean licks and heartfelt folk melodies.  His latest releases are the album Signed and Sealed in 2024 and an EP, Six Strings and the Truth in 2025.

Greg Dear is a guitarist and songwriter who has a long history in the Perth music scene who is recognised for his contribution to Australian music.  His band Beautiful Losers was formed by Greg in 1987 after the demise of his band The Holy Rollers (1984-1986). They recorded a single (Ten Lies b/w Deadly Game) in 87 and an album (Lover/Saint) in 88 released by Hot Records in 1989. They recorded a song for an ABC Records compilation celebrating the arrival of Radio Station JJJ in Perth in 1990. That lineup also played the first ever JJJ Live-At-The-Wireless to be broadcast nationally from Perth. After a long vacation from performing and recording Greg formed Beautiful Losers. Since the 80s he has released singles and albums both solo and with his bands (Holy Rollers, Beautiful Losers, and Butterfly Collection), and produced records by other Perth bands. Greg has played many successful gigs in both Perth and Melbourne and has made several music festival appearances.

‘‘Perth Folk and Roots Club looks forward to our Club and its supporters reminiscing on the great music of Perth from the 70’s and 80’s’, Keith added.
